I am wondering if you have been following the work-life balance debate in the lawyer realm? For example, here is a post at What About Clients?

Stephanie,

Thanks for the question.

I haven't followed the lawyer realm before your post.

I would note, however, that it is unfortunate that the topic was named work-life balance years ago. This name suggests that one needs to make a choice between work and life.

A better appraoch is to look at it ALL as life. One simply makes choices (with consequences) based on your values.

Second, in executive coaching (as in corporate america), one starts with defining values.

Then, based on values, you develop your vision, long and short range goals, and acheivable action plans to attain your vision.

Third, most intelligent people also try to make their life choices with consideration of the best available data.

Perhaps those favoring ongoing 60 to 80+ hour weeks will share their scientifically documented, peer reviewed, studies of "efficiency vs. hours worked" on which they have based their decisionmaking to work extended hours.

Enough said.
